Silo

On 12 August 2009 Premier Soccer League club AmaZulu announced that star defender Jan Sillo was killed in a motor accident earlier in the day.

Sillo was a key member of the Usuthu team and had given a fine performance in the clubs opening league match against Bidvest Wits at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday. He joined AmaZulu in the 2006-07 season after previously featuring for Bloemfontein Young Tigers and Zulu Royals.

"The club received the terrible news of right-back Jan Sillos passing in the early hours through a report by the police to team manager James Dlamini. The details of 'Lombos' passing are still not clear but it is believed he was rushing back to Durban coming from his hometown, Botshabelo," the club said on its official website.

AmaZulu said club directors immediately rushed to the training ground to assist the players in receiving the tragic news. The news comes at a crucial time, when the players were still nursing the pain of the untimely loss of Siyabonga 'Benni' Mkhwanazi last season.

Following the sad news, the PSL sent its condolences to the family, friends and fans of AmaZulu FC defender Jan Masoeng Sillo who passed away tragically.

Sillo, who started his professional career at Bloemfontein Young Tigers in 2003, leaves behind his wife and one child.
