Segobo Piet Makhale "Rocky Motumisi" Sebata
posted by Mollys, Monday 05th September 2011, 15:45pm
Segobo Piet Makhale was born on the 22nd July 1972 at Winburg. He was the sixth child of the late Mr Suping and Mrs Mastefane Makhale. He attended his primary schooling at Junction at Junction Spruit Primary School in Winburg and proceeded to Rankwe Primary School at Botshabelo.
He obtained his secondary education at Reamohetse Secondary School at Botshabelo.
While at Reamohetse, the brutality of apartheid system awakened his political consciousness. He involved himself in student politics in the Botshabelo Coordinating Committee (BOSCOC) which later became Botshabelo Student Congress (BOSCO). After school hours he became actively involved in youth politics through the Botshabelo Youth Congress (BOYCO). Comrade Sebata was actively involved in various political campaigns including the anti-incorporation into Qwa Qwa. He was instrumental in the establishment of L & T Youth Congress under BOYCO.
When the then Commander – in – Chief of Umkhonto we Sizwe, Cde Oliver Thambo made a clarion call that the youth of South Africa should swell the rank of MK, he heeded to the call and left the country to join the ANC in exile. He received military training at Dr Hugo Nkabinde Training Camp in Uganda. He served MK in many capacities until his return to South Africa in 1994. He then integrated into the South African national Defence Force as a corporal in the Military Police in Tempe until 2000.
In 2007 he served in the Regional Interim Committee which was tasked with the responsibility to launch MKMVA in Motheo. In October 2000, he was elected in the REC of MKVA where he served with diligence. In 2008 he entered into holy matrimony with Ms Mpho Sekolanyane.
It was in the same year where he was elected the Branch Secretary of the ANC Maniki Motlohi Branch. During the 2nd regional Conference of the of MKVA in March 2011 he declined the nomination to serve another term in the REC of MKMVA due to ill-health.
Through his health could not allow him to actively participate in the programs of MKMVA towards the local government elections, as a disciplined cadre, a commander and a commissar, he defined the pain and became instrumental in the electioneering campaigns of MKMVA. At the time of his ultimately departure he was still active departure he was still active in MKMVA , an incorruptible and fearless branch secretary, a Community Liaison Officer at Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality. Cde Sebata lived not because he did all the things that all of us as ordinary men and women do. Sebata lived because he surrendered his very being to the people. He lived because his very being embodied love, idea, hope, vision and aspiration. While he lived, our minds would never quite formulate the thought that this man is other man that the naked eye could see. Cde Sebata has not died, because the ideals for which he sacrificed his life can never die.
A combatant and a revolutionary who stood the test of time.
